With the rapid development of electric vehicles, the demand for charging stations has skyrocketed. However, the popularization of charging stations has been constrained by various factors such as cost and urban construction planning. Facing this challenge, SuperX Company has brought a brand-new and exciting solution to the UK – transforming streetlight poles into electric vehicle charging stations. Can you imagine it? This crazy idea has already been realized on British streets.
Together with the Westminster City Council, successfully converted 24 streetlight poles on Sutherland Avenue in London (spanning over half a mile) into EV charging stations. This residential avenue has also been nicknamed “Electric Avenue, W9”. In the next two weeks, two adjacent roads will also undergo similar conversions, and the overall goal of the Westminster City Council is to reach 1000 charging points by 2020.
Daniel Bentham, Managing Director of Ubitricity UK, commented: “Streetlight charging provides a convenient, low-cost, renewable, and energy-saving method for charging electric vehicles. Vehicles spend 95% of their time idle, so it is meaningful to charge them while drivers are doing other things, such as sleeping or working. Our technology aims to maintain low installation and maintenance costs, which means long-term cost savings for both electric vehicle drivers and municipal governments.”
SuperX’s innovative project not only addresses the charging needs of electric vehicles but also leverages existing urban infrastructure, reducing resource waste and environmental pollution. This project demonstrates SuperX’s leading position in smart cities and green transportation. In the future, SuperX will continue to push the boundaries of EV charging technology, bringing more convenient and environmentally friendly travel experiences to global users.
